In Germany there are many places with names similar to Hayde – Hayd, Heid, Heide, Heidt, being some of them.  The surnames are prolific in southern German areas around the Palatinate.

The page on German Research covers the research undertaken. The page that describes the Meaning of the Name also covers the German names, crests etc.

I have spent numerous hours trying to trace a Hayde (and variants) from the Palatine to England, Ireland and America in order to try to find a connection between the Irish and German Haydes.

In 1709/10 some 821 Palatine families were sent to Ireland from London, after they had left the Palatine and made their way to London.  They were essentially protestants who fled the Palatine due to the persecutions at the time.  I however have not found a Hayde or variant in any of these records.

What I have traced is a family who used Hayde (and most of the variants) back to Nuertingen in Baden Wuerttemburg in the early 1500s.  This is a very comprehensive tree and can be viewed as Tree # 13 at https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/tree/51542132/family

There is also a web site for this tree at http://www.genealogy.com/ftm/h/a/y/Karl-Hayde-VIC/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-Index.html

Any further information is welcome.

  1. Wow you honestly need to put a link to contact you somewhere on this website it is taking me an hour to figure out Where to leave you a comment!
My name is Linda Mae Hidy, I live in Chico California USA and my email is lindahidy@yahoo.com. I’m trying to contact you because I traced my families ancestry through ancestry.com and we are direct descendants of Johannes Hayde (Heyde) Hidy
    1693 – 1751

Born in Nuertingen, Germany in 1693 .
Our name got changed to the spelling of Hidy when his great-grandson fought in the revolutionary war in 1776. Johan Heinrich Heyde was changed to John Hidy. John Hidy was buried in Virginia I can give you links to his gravestone and ancestry information please contact me at lindahidy@yahoo.com
I would also like our DNA to get linked UP.

    • Hi Linda. There is a contact link on the Background tab however I see you have also sent a message on Ancestry.

Look also at the section on German Research as I have done a lot of work on the families from Nuertingen. Look also at Tree 13 as this is the tree that I have put together for this family. You will see Hidy mentioned in this. Look also at the Links to Other Sites and you will find a link to the Hite Family Association and you will see more about your family in this work. You will also see a link to a web site set up by Karl Hayde that also covers this family.

Look also at the DNA section and you will see reference to a DNA test that I had done on a living Hayde descendent in your tree. This does not link to my DNA.

      Regards David
