South America

There are several connections with South America (including Mexico) that are as yet unexplained.

  • In Brazil and Mexico, I found the Hayde name used as a first name.
  • In Argentina, I found a few recent references to Hayde.

I have not yet checked any telephone books of these countries to see if the name is currently used nor have I undertaken any research in these countries.

Another unexplained connection is with the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) that I have included here as it possibly originates from the Caribbean. This reference is to:

  • The Rev. Walter Hayde Lini, who served as Prime Minister from independence in 1980 until he was ousted in 1991.

He was born in Vanuatu and I think the Hayde is an anglisised version of Haedi, a local pronunciation of Lini.
